ABSTRACT

Signalling flare compositions are used to signal messages with various military codesas well as distress signalling. Red, yellow, white and green are the most commonly used flare colors as our eyes are more sensitive to these colours and can recognise them through long distances. The intensity and purity of these colour signals is very important for observation. This chapter provides details about the role, mechanism of production of flame colour, colour purity, factors affecting perception of flame colour, red signalling flare compositions, green signalling flare compositions, yellow signalling flare compositions, white signalling flare compositions, blue signalling flare compositions, elastic flare compositions, non-toxic signalling flare compositions and special requirements of signalling flare compositions.
