ABSTRACT
Pyrotechnics are high energy materials and have wide applications, from firework industry to military explosives as well as merchant navy and space vehicles. An overview of military pyrotechnics has been provided. This chapter introduces military pyrotechnics and provides an overview of military pyrotechnics, both compositions and ammunition/devices, its differences from fireworks, definition of pyrotechnics, comparison of high energy materials, comparison of pyrotechnic combustion vis a vis chemical reaction in liquid phase, its advantages and disadvantages, special effects of pyrotechnic compositions and their purpose, characteristics of pyrotechnic compositions, general essential requirements of pyrotechnic compositions and measurable parameters of pyrotechnic compositions. The book explores the wide applications of pyrotechnic ammunitions and devices. References are provided at end of the chapter.
