ABSTRACT

Military combat operations require a full picture of the terrain and enemy troops and vehicles for proper planning. The problem becomes acute when the operations are required to be carried out at night. Photoflash compositions serve a better tool to assist military operations. Various photoflash bombs and photoflash cartridges have been developed over the years. These are ejected from aircrafts from a minimum of 30,000 feet above the ground and they provide peak luminosity of several million or several billion candlepower in a few milliseconds, just sufficient for night photography. This chapter provides details on typical photoflash bombs and cartridges. References are given at the end of the chapter.
