ABSTRACT

Simulating ammunitions are widely used as alternatives to deceive enemy and train troops. These are cost-effective as well. These ammunitions are used to produce sounds and flash and sometimes smoke similar to that on a battlefield to deceive the enemy or training exercises for battlefield experience/familiarisation of unseasoned troops with battle conditions without exposing them to real ammunition. There are various types of simulators like air burst type simulators which burst with delay in air with sound and exhibit smoke or ground burst simulators which produce the whistling sound of ammunition and a big sound of burst or hand grenade simulators which burst with delay and sound or blank cartridges which are without projectile and produce big sound. This chapter provides role and types of simulating ammunitions. References are given at the end of the chapter.
