ABSTRACT
Pyrotechnic infrared flare ammunition has been effectively utilised for covert illumination, covert photography and training the aircrew in accurate firing of combat missiles. Infrared flare decoys and infrared illuminating ammunitions have assumed significance over the past few decades. This chapter provides the role and types of infrared flare ammunitions like mortar infrared illuminating bombs with parachute, artillery infrared illuminating shells with parachute, hand-held infrared flares with parachute and infrared flares decoys for defensive purpose. It also provides the mechanism of infrared flare decoys for defensive purpose, design requirements of infrared decoys, infrared decoy flares assembly and infrared flare dispensing towed decoy .
