ABSTRACT

The general definition of a weed is a plant out of place. More specifically, a weed is defined as a plant that is a nuisance, that is a hazard, or that causes injuries to humans, livestock, poultry, or crops. This chapter will concentrate on the control of weeds as pests in crops production. Weeds originate from wild species that are native to cultivated areas, from foreign or wild species that were introduced intentionally or by accident, or from species that are crop plants. The kinds of weeds that one deals with vary with the practices that are used in the production of crops.
