ABSTRACT

The book and its subject matter are introduced in this chapter. The subject matter of entrepreneurship as applied to startups is developed with a special application focus in three fields (or branches) of electrical engineering: power semiconductor devices, power electronics, and electric motors and their drive systems. This book is the first of its kind in attempting to bring entrepreneurship as it applies to startups for electrical students and professionals alike in their own atmosphere and as a natural concomitant of their own studies and research, and illustrated with the three fields chosen to be described. Further, it can also be learned in the engineering school itself with more authenticity and in a known environment making use of the knowledge base that is acquired in their previous courses and research and also equally applicable to the practicing engineers. In this chapter, methodology for the study of entrepreneurship is presented and the contents of the book are summarized as a prelude to the following chapters.
