ABSTRACT

By virtue of the application of science in fashion design, the fast growing garment industry, once dependent solely on the availability of skilled labor for new creations, is now witnessing the use of advanced technology leading to highly efficient production. Not only this, SMEs and multinational companies across the industry are now capable of delivering new products in less time to market, fostering an interactive customer-business culture. Businesses are benefiting from digital transformation using R&D as the channel to sustainable growth.

This chapter is devoted to the principles of science and technology in fashion design. From the concepts of science as an art in fashion, its impact on fashion design, and material science in product development, the chapter covers different aspects of fashion design and fashion technology, further discusses the techniques of AI used to personalize the garment selection, and emphasizes the modern-day use of smart AI-based technology avatars in the fashion industry.
