ABSTRACT

Textile Science is a relatively novel discipline, in which the exploration of fiber and fabric design has been the most established process. The development of fabric is quite sophisticated, as it has to walk through a series of activities, including understanding characteristic properties of fabrics, curating design by blending fibers or yarns, and integrating technological tools to produce and improve the performance of fabrics for different applications. Shifting their design methodology focus from end products to the scientific and technological aspects of textiles, countries across the globe have been able to build innovative products using digital technology and advanced machines. This chapter summarizes the knowledge acquired from the study of textile properties, fabric analysis, and production techniques that support the role of science and technology in textile design. A comprehensive interpretation of textile science acts as a torch-bearer for designers to make sensible selections of fabrics that complement their art of design.
