ABSTRACT

This chapter is dedicated to discussing physical measures that had remained ignored due to their slow action and lack of quick knockdown. However, when tried again, these measures proved significantly successful in the management of whitefly. For example, on account of the popularization of organic farming, the dependence on electrostatic sweepers has increased manifolds. Although its use has been restricted to covered crops hitherto, in the days to come, these sweepers are likely to cover open crops too. Several biorational approaches have also been put to use, such as mulches, regular mass trapping, surf, oils, several neem products, entomopathogenic fungi, and washing the plants under pressure to dislodge the fragile adults. Homemade remedies such as a mixture of detergent and lemon for obtaining control over insects, especially the whiteflies, have also been discussed. Additionally, the use of plants such as basil, oilseed, marigold, and parsley as repellents of whiteflies, and the use of parasitoid /predators have also been briefly mentioned.
