ABSTRACT

This chapter argues how the whitefly is more important from the point of vectors. It is known to transmit several Geminivirus /Begomoviruses in nature. The chapter discusses stylet-borne, gut-borne, and persistent-circulative viruses transmissible through whiteflies. The Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus is a well-worked virus transmissible through Bemisia tabaci. The virus-vector transmission has been discussed, the virus genera and the virus associated with that genus into consideration. The role of the protein coat in the transmission of whitefly-borne viruses has also been mentioned. A brief discussion of viruses in different genera, such as the Tomato Torrado Virus (Torradovirus), Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus (Geminivirus), Cucurbit Yellow Stunting Disorder Virus (Crinivirus) Sweet Potato Mild Mottle Virus (Ipomovirus), Tomato Chlorosis Virus (Closterovirus), Tomato Pale Chlorosis Virus (Carlavirus), and the newly identified Citrus Chlorotic Dwarf Virus (Geminiviridae) have also been presented.
