ABSTRACT

The highest level of what we are doing is called asset management. Maintenance is a small part of this high-level activity. The goals of asset management are twofold. The first goal is to maximize the value we can obtain from the asset. The second goal is to minimize the risk (of all types) that comes along with the asset.

We want to manage the organization’s assets to provide maximal value, the lowest risk for the most economical cost. Companies have managed their assets from the beginning. The recent challenge is that organizations are so big that consistency, ability to work together, or even knowing what the best decision for the whole company is challenging.
