ABSTRACT

What is a mentor, and why it is vital for the development of the supervisor? Many aspects of the supervisor’s job cannot be learned in a classroom. They have to be discovered by making mistakes. Mentors provide context for the error and promote development.

There are many ways to develop as a person and as a supervisor. Often, development happens simultaneously. Two good ideas are to look for positive role models and to seek out mentors. It is not a coincidence that there is an opportunity for development to become a role model and become a mentor.
