ABSTRACT

The two-dimension approach was used even when analyzing the real space or three-dimensional structures, to simplify the problem analysis. However, in many structures, a planar assumption may not be appropriate and space consideration is more accurate. The vector method is the easiest way to analyze a 3D force system. The differences between these methods are also shown using examples. Vectors are quantities that are fully described by both a magnitude and a direction. Therefore, vectors have direction as well as magnitude. Some examples of scalar quantities include speed, volume, mass, temperature, power, energy, and time. Some examples of vector quantities include force, velocity, acceleration, displacement, and momentum. Determine the magnitude of the resultant and its direction with respect to the 50-kN force. The 50-kN force is acting parallel to the ground.
