ABSTRACT

The responsibility of power system industry is to provide quality and reliability with less cost, so that customers are satisfied. Optimal power flow (OPF) solutions aid in the power system operation and control; however, flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices are used to improve the performance and to attain the objectives of OPF. In this chapter, a new flower pollination algorithm (FPA) inspired by the pollination process of flowers is proposed to solve the OPF problem. The system under study is IEEE 30 bus and algorithm is executed. Based on the computed results, it is seen that using FPA with FACTS devices provides stable voltage, less emission, and reduction in loss and fuel cost as compared with algorithms.
