ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the main tasks carried out by a reservoir engineer are explained. They include determining how much of the hydrocarbons in the reservoir can be recovered. Reservoir engineers maximize economic recovery of hydrocarbons by minimizing costs and maximizing hydrocarbon recovery. The project management carried out by reservoir engineers for the extraction of oil and gas is presented. The process of economic analysis done by reservoir engineers to determine which wells to drill and when is discussed, along with the risk analysis related to the different parameters that go into the economic analysis.
