ABSTRACT

System administration and network administration are two important IT-operations that play a critical role in keeping servers up and running and providing services to end users/clients. By using several sys-admin commands or utilities, troubleshooting activities, techniques, operations and solutions, so-called tips and tricks, system and network administrators keep servers and server operating systems up and running, resolve the issues that occur on application servers and network infrastructure, and consequently provide support for system availability, continuous computing, and business continuity. This chapter aims at identifying the role of system administrators and network administrators in enhancing business continuity. Most widely used server operating systems are analyzed from a system administration perspective and their business continuity-oriented features are identified. In addition, a syllabus for a BC-oriented system administration course is presented.
