ABSTRACT

This chapter explores some of the important aspects that need to be considered while planning, strategizing, and implementing a circular economy. Metrics is the first step to understand the status on circularity in our economy and accordingly set targets to develop a roadmap. Assessments at regional, national, and global levels help in understanding the impact of policy measures on a circular economy. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation launched Circulytics, a tool to support a company's transition towards the circular economy, regardless of industry, complexity, and size. Going beyond assessing products and material flows, this company-level measuring tool reveals the extent to which a company has achieved circularity across its entire operations. Common global indicators to measure circular economy for businesses are still being developed by different institutions. Policies on sustainable procurement and local sourcing can make a difference to bring in behavioral change.
