ABSTRACT

Pattern recognition is becoming more widely used in most technologies, and, along with sound recognition, has already become a major everyday function in our lives. For instance, it is used whenever we use plastic cards to make payments, opening a dialogue on our smartphone, and scanning products at the checkout counter. Pattern recognition is used when passing through the automatic immigration gate and driving through the freeway payment box in-transit. Pattern recognition is very simple and explained starting with the basics of correlation of numbers for image recognition. It finishes with three exercises using the new knowledge provided in the chapter followed by ‘Further Reading’.
