ABSTRACT

This is potentially one of the most useful everyday user chapters to read, which explains how common kitchen appliances work. For example, the classic question of ‘why do refrigerator doors close automatically?’ is explained in an easily understood way. This chapter reviews the operation of every appliance from the microwave oven through the dishwasher to the common coffee percolator, and even discusses the merits of home printers versus the more expensive 3D printing at home. With many annotated diagrams of operating appliances, it explains most of the pros and cons of operating a kitchen appliance (and can even be used as a reference for when the reader is considering going out to purchase a particular appliance). Read the chapter on conventional vacuum cleaners versus bagless cyclonic vacuums and it may change your thinking. There is ‘Further Reading’ offered at the end.
