ABSTRACT
The basic understanding of origin and development coronavirus infection needs a clear study of pathogen biology. The fundamental structural and functional characteristics of the pathogen including life cycle and pathophysiology are discussed in this chapter. Research related to the novel coronavirus strain SARS-CoV-2 or nCoV-2019 is emerging and rapidly evolving with new findings every day. This chapter discusses the established scientific communication until June 2020 after the discovery of the novel strain in January 2020.
