ABSTRACT

The spread of COVID-19 worldwide and the disorientation caused by it have made a serious impact not only on the economy but also on the physical and psychosocial wellbeing of people belonging to different age groups and socioeconomic status. Scientific communities are working tirelessly with the sole aim of developing safe vaccines and medications that can prevent or treat COVID-19. Meanwhile, the healthcare sector worldwide is committed to develop specialized infrastructure and provide medical care to moderate to seriously affected COVID-19 patients in order to minimize the casualties caused by the ongoing pandemic. This commitment has significantly impacted services to other public health-related issues. This chapter points out some of the basic concerns and issues relating to public health. The chapter focuses on how issues such as reproductive, maternal and child health, family planning, pregnancy and childbirth, breastfeeding, age-group-related health factors, mental health, and nutritional needs are impacted by COVID-19.
