ABSTRACT

The massive investments in electric vehicles (EVs) reveal paradigm change in the transport sector, and the proliferation of EVs will contribute to an effective reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases. The basic idea is that in a five-phase machine with sinusoidal spatial magneto-motive force distribution, current flow will result in rotating field, and hence no torque is developed. A battery is a device consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external connections provided to power electrical devices such as flashlights, mobile phones, and electric cars. The simulation of charging mode of operation of a five-phase system is executed in MATLAB/sim-power systems software. Grid voltage, battery voltage, dc-link voltage, output battery current, and machine currents are measured using voltage and current sensors. A simulation of multiphase integrated configuration shows the reliability of charging with unity power factor, with zero torque production in the machine.
