Feed Nutrients Required by Animal Body book
This chapter lists out different feed nutrients required by animal body such as protein, carbohydrates, fat, minerals, vitamins and water. Amino acids are present in polypeptide chain. The chemical composition of protein includes carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, phosphorous, and sulphur. The chapter lists out characteristics of different proteins such as globular proteins, conjugated proteins, and fibrous proteins. Protein makes up 17 to 20 percent of the animal body and 3.6 percent of the milk. Carbohydrates are formed in plants by photosynthesis and are used as ready energy source in feed. The chapter discusses the sources of carbohydrates in animal body and functions of carbohydrates. Lipids are divided into simple lipids, compound or conjugated lipids and derived lipids. The chapter also discusses the functions of fats and minerals. Vitamins are required by animals in minute quantities essential for metabolism, growth and development.
