ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with an exploration of two Renaissance pictures that have grids in perspective. Detailed instructions show how to create a grid in perspective using a diagonal vanishing point. Geometric principles justify the use of a diagonal vanishing point and its location with respect to both the central vanishing point and the station point. The distance from the station point to the central vanishing point is equal to the distance from the central vanishing point to the diagonal vanishing point. A method for finding the diagonal vanishing point in a perspective painting is given. Instructions are given for arranging evenly spaced objects like fence posts along a receding road. Finally, grids are used to draw polygons in perspective. The chapter concludes with a list of exercises and readings.
