Overview

Chapter 3 of this book discusses one of the most important competencies of any successful virtual project management leadership style: communication. Twenty-first century communication approaches used by successful project managers in virtual projects are covered, including communication plans and technologies. The advantages and disadvantages to communications for those leading and managing projects virtually and what tools, techniques and best practices can enhance communications for distributed teams are reviewed. Best practice approaches reviewed are face-to-face communications, teleconferences, telephone calls, and collaboration tools. Tips for professional online videoconferencing and facilitating successful video conferences are included in this chapter. The chapter discusses which leadership styles are best suited for good communications in the virtual environment and how the virtual project manager can improve communications for the team.
