ABSTRACT

A central proposition underpinning this book is that the comprehensive and successful implementation of innovation requires the integration of the mindset (mental attitudes and ways of thinking) and capabilities (skills, routines and assets) within the healthcare delivery organisation, and often within the broader system. The ongoing development of those capabilities depends upon learning, and that learning requires a supportive culture or climate for it to happen. Said differently, a creative climate is crucial for the establishment of a creative mindset. Relatedly, a creative climate can be enhanced by organisational learning mechanisms. In this chapter, we explore the relationships among these elements.
