ABSTRACT

Fractions are also used everywhere in the science, from the radioactive decay rates to statistical analysis. Also, engineers and scientists use decimal numbers all the time in calculations. Engineers and scientists also use percentages a lot in the calculations; for example, percentage change is commonly used in the engineering, statistics, physics, finance, chemistry and the economics. When the value of the numerator is less than the value of the denominator, the fraction is called a proper fraction. When the value of the numerator is greater than the denominator, the fraction is called an improper fraction. The ratio of one quantity to another is a fraction, and is the number of times one quantity is contained in another quantity of the same kind. If one quantity is directly proportional to another, then as one quantity doubles, the other quantity also doubles.
