ABSTRACT

In the current construction practice, the use of chemical admixtures turns out to be popular. Hence, an understanding of different chemical admixtures is essential to decide on an appropriate admixture in the construction. This chapter narrates the summary of superplasticisers, set regulators, air-entraining agents, viscosity modifying admixtures, shrinkage reducing admixtures and corrosion inhibitors. The determination of ash content, solid content and chloride content in the admixtures is explored. Besides, Marsh cone test and mini-slump test for the optimised dosage of superplasticiser are given. A detailed procedure for finding dosage viscosity modifying admixtures is also presented in this chapter. These testing methods enable to understand the influence of admixtures on the fresh and hardened properties of concrete.
