ABSTRACT

Aggregates are the major constituent of concrete. The quality of aggregates considerably influences the performance of the concrete. In recent times, there is a significant demand for fine and coarse aggregates. Besides, the restriction for the use of river sand as fine aggregates worsens the situation and leads to a lot of demand on alternatives aggregates. Testing of aggregates plays a crucial role in the selection of aggregates. This chapter describes a detailed procedure for several testing methods, including sieve analysis, aggregate crushing value as well as impact value, size indices, aggregate abrasion value, bulking of fine aggregate, stripping resistance of aggregate, relative density, absorption of fine and coarse aggregate, bulk density and voids in aggregate. Exercise questions and answers from competitive exams are given in the latter part of the chapter.
