ABSTRACT

Concrete is a widely used construction material due to its strength, durability and easy of construction. In addition to strength, modern concrete applications are mainly based on its durability. Moreover, special concretes and their applications are also essential to understand to meet the skill demand at the construction sites. For instance, pumping of concrete has become common and the flow properties of concrete have gained importance in the design of concrete. Therefore, this chapter describes eight testing methods for fresh properties of concrete. A discussion on durability problems and special concrete is included in the unit summary. More emphasis is placed on durability test methods from international standards, including oxygen permeability test, sorptivity test, water penetration test, rapid chloride penetration test, rapid chloride migration test.
