ABSTRACT

Paints and varnishes are commonly used surface protections in construction. Due to technological advancement, significant improvements have been adopted in paints from simple water-based paints to textured emulsion paints. Although many paints are available based on different kind of applications, merely a few test methods are adopted. In general, more importance is given to specific properties of paints, such as adhesion, yield stress, pot life etc., during quality control. As a result, pull-off test for adhesion, degree of the settling and yield stress are discussed in detail in this chapter. These test methods can be effectively used to assess the quality of different types of paints.
