ABSTRACT

Cyberspace is pervasive for government, business, shopping, and socializing. Its existence has created opportunities for new crimes, and new ways of committing old crimes at scale and speed. Cyberspace also enables the collection of data which, with the aid of data analytics, can be used by law enforcement to detect crime. Cyberspace also enables both criminals and law enforcement to interact with their respective peers and so learn in a new, global way. These two technologies, cyberspace and data analytics, have been disruptive for both criminals and law enforcement, and both sides are struggling to use them well.
