ABSTRACT

This chapter will open by providing an overview of the development of 3D fashion design software. It will move on to consider the current and emerging drivers of this technology, including business confidence in 3D fashion design software, cost of sampling versus cost of computing technology, sustainable design practice, education, the global pandemic, consumer demand for faster fashion and person-alised apparel, trends in the use of virtual try-on using augmented reality to support e-commerce, the growth of new digital fashion markets, and the expanding Chinese fashion industry. The chapter will also provide details of recent and emerging advancements in 3D fashion design software through the lens of a new 3D fashion design software company Style3D and finally a consideration of the future of 3D fashion design software.
