ABSTRACT

One of the important audit items that Rachel Hazard is concerned about during her walk-around of Chemmix is the thermal hazards present and what steps the company has taken to ensure employee awareness to the hazards associated with heat and cold exposure. OSHA and Rachel Hazard fully understand the hazards involved with the exposure to heat or cold; they can lead to serious illness. Thermal comfort in the workplace is a function of several varied factors. Temperature, humidity, air distribution, personal preference, and acclimatization are all determinants of comfort in the workplace. Temperature hazards are generally thought of as relating to extremes of heat. This is natural because most workplace temperature hazards do relate to heat. The four factors that contribute to cold stress are cold temperature, high or frigid wind, dampness, and icy water.
