ABSTRACT

This chapter is divided into six main sections. The first two sections of this chapter discuss the essential connection between sustainable development and life-cycle assessment, as well as the green building concept in the construction field. This section briefly presents sustainable trends in the sector and the role the life-cycle assessment plays in this growing trend. Thereafter, the chapter analyzes the development of the green building rating tools from global and Australian perspectives. The description of each of the identified credits related to greenhouse gas emission reduction in a building’s lifetime is likewise included in this section. Moreover, the chapter discusses the models employed to evaluate greenhouse gas emissions of green buildings and their limitations.
