ABSTRACT

Chapter 14 presents the properties of dry air and water vapor such as specific humidity, relative humidity, dew-point temperature, and wet-bulb and dry-bulb temperatures including adiabatic saturation process. Dalton’s law of partial pressures is introduced. The measurement of wet-bulb and dry-bulb temperatures is presented. It also covers the psychrometric chart and its application to air-conditioning processes to deal with sensible heating and cooling, heating with humidification cooling with dehumidification, evaporative cooling, and adiabatic mixing of airstreams. It introduces the procedure to design the air-conditioning processes that are the requirement of outdoor conditions for the given indoor conditions with the help of the psychrometric chart.
