ABSTRACT
Choosing data protection and compliance technologies requires companies to do a cost–benefit analysis to determine the total cost of ownership. While tooling may be expensive, the operational costs that companies incur when they lack the right technologies can increase the overall cost of compliance. This chapter defines total cost of ownership, discusses the difference between capital expenditures and operating expenses, and provides suggestions for how to analyze overall compliance costs.
