ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a list of official guidelines for the Treatment of Hypertension – published in 2017 by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association and other organizations. The consequence of not using the Hypertension Institute Program is that many patients take too many drugs to lower their blood pressure (BP), have too many side effects, and do not feel well. These side effects may include fatigue, memory loss, dizziness, headache, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, depression, anxiety, dry mouth, sedation, low heart rate, and inability to exercise. Hypertension is a process and maybe more of a marker for a damaged and unhealthy artery. Hypertension is a disease of the artery and the increase in BP is really a “marker” for the abnormal artery. The arterial damage and dysfunction occur early leading to an abnormal vasculature. Nondrug treatment combined with the best BP-lowering medications that address both the function and structure of the artery and reduce the BP is the best approach.
