ABSTRACT

Hypertension is one of the insults, “biomechanical,” that will damage the arteries and the heart. Changes in the blood pressure and the blood flow will stimulate receptors on the artery that have long fancy names that result in one or all of the three finite responses of inflammation, oxidative stress, and immune artery dysfunction. Oxidative stress is an imbalance of radical oxygen species with a decrease in antioxidant defenses that contributes to hypertension in humans on the basis of genetics and environment. Inflammation is due to white blood cells and called T cells and B cells that attack invaders such as bacteria, viruses, and other insults to contain, remove, and kill them. The immune system is closely involved with inflammation with the same T cells and B cells and other immune and inflammation cells. Controlling and treating all three of these finite artery responses will help one to lower the blood pressure.
