ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with Cockcroft Walton voltage multiplier-based multistage (also called multilevel) power converter configurations. We will discuss comparative studies with existing power converter configurations. We suggest the Nx IMBC multilevel power converter when utilizing the interleaved concept. The complete theoretical background, analysis, design, and working modes are presented. Comparisons in terms of cost components and voltage conversion gain ratio, and the effect of the internal series resistance of an inductor are elaborated. We present numerical simulations and experimental prototype results for interleaved Nx converter configurations with conclusions observed.
