ABSTRACT

Leading emphasizes behavioural issues whereas managing emphasizes assessment of the situation, the selection of goals, the development of means of achieving these goals, the use of resources, the design, organization, direction, and control of people in order to cause the programs to be successful. There are four different types of leadership styles: directive leadership, supportive leadership, participative leadership, and achievement-oriented leadership. The observation of a bad supervisor or a manager is important since the individual is given an opportunity to see what occurs when bad supervision is practiced. The key to the art of supervision and management is to be a decent person who is straightforward and helpful-but firm. It has established the role of the supervisor, the need for supervision, the art and techniques of supervision and management, the problems of the new supervisor, and the techniques used to establish goals and make decisions, and finally, it has given the people some insight into how a supervisor is chosen.
