ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the experimental results of the research concerning the mathematical model of ventilation for specified semi-closed-circuit rebreather with a metering bellows dispenser. The chapter shows the results of scientific research investigations concentrated on the French self-contained diving apparatus with semi-closed-circuit rebreather type CRABE.

In the laboratory tests conducted without the participation of people, a breathing action simulator coupled with a modernized metabolic simulator was used. Such a test stand should make it possible to carry out investigations on the ventilation model used in the diving apparatus. The ventilation model of the diving apparatus provides data for the decompression model, which enables planning adequate decompression. So far, the investigations have focused on the combined ventilation and decompression model.

Simulation-based investigations are expected to allow determining the adequacy of the adopted model of ventilation in the breathing space of the semi-closed-circuit rebreather with a metering bellows dispenser. Developing this model with the required accuracy provides the opportunity to work out data for the assumed decompression model.
