ABSTRACT

A hydrostatic leak test is a method of testing piping, pipelines, tanks, and vessels using water as the test fluid. At the Site, such a test is for piping, pipelines, tanks, etc., and at a Vendor shop, it is for vessels, where the vessels include pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns, and reactors.

Quality discipline approves test packs prepared by the construction team before performing the pressure test. The pressure test requirement is specified in the drawing approved for construction and is in the possession of the discipline that is responsible and also specified in ASME B31.3 for Piping and B31.4 for Pipelines. Besides, the Hydrotest Procedure thereof mentions these requirements.

For Site-fabricated-tanks, a leak test is conducted at atmospheric pressure by filling water and holding it for a certain period as applicable thereof.
