ABSTRACT
This chapter presents various introductory aspects of applied reliability. It covers reliability history, need of reliability in product design, reliability application and specialized areas, terms and definitions, useful sources for obtaining information on reliability, military and other reliability documents, scope of the book, problems, and references.
In the case of useful sources for obtaining information on reliability, the chapter lists nine agencies, seven journals, six conference proceedings, and fourteen books. Similarly, in the case of military and other documents, the chapter lists twenty-one military documents and two other documents. Also, this chapter presents ten problems to test the reader’s comprehension in the area.
Finally, the sources of most of the material presented in the chapter are given in its reference section. This will be useful to readers, if they desire to delve more deeply into a specific topic or area.
