ABSTRACT

This chapter presents various aspects of robot reliability. It covers robot failure classifications, causes, and corrective measures; robot reliability–related survey results; and robot effectiveness dictating factors, robot reliability measures, reliability analysis of electric and hydraulic robots, models for performing robot reliability, and maintenance studies. The robot reliability measures are robot reliability, mean time to robot failure (MTTRF), robot hazard rate, and mean time to robot problems. There are three models for performing robot reliability and maintenance studies.

At appropriate places, the chapter contains examples along with their solutions, and there are ten problems at the end of the chapter to test the reader’s comprehension in the area. Finally, the sources of most of the material presented in the chapter are given in its reference section. They will be useful to readers if they desire to delve more deeply into a specific area of interest.
