ABSTRACT

There is, in physical security, a concept known as ‘situational awareness’. In reality, of course, the people are all somewhat aware of our immediate situation. But it is true that most of the people do not pay enough attention to what is happening in their vicinity. The lack of situational awareness has been amply demonstrated by almost any trip to the store during the pandemic. Weekends tend to be the time that those who have been seriously self-isolating tend to come out of hibernation and scuttle to the store for supplies. Peering around with frightened eyes and not paying attention to the changes that have been taking place in grocery (and other) stores over the past weeks. Physical distancing (which is a more accurate, but less catchy, phrase than the more widely repeated ‘social distancing’) is one of the actions that the people can take that are known to reduce the transmission of the virus.
