ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the validation of the constructs of the proposed employability framework by adopting a Delphi approach using South Africa as a case study. This chapter describes in detail the different steps and approaches undertaken during the Delphi process and how consensus among the Delphi experts were reached. The chapter also discusses the composition of the expert panel, background study, and results of Delphi-specific objectives. The variables considered were generic skills, discipline-specific skills, work-integrated learning, and emotional intelligence. While these variables have been measured in previous models and studies, this book identified university-industry collaboration and Industry 4.0 requirements as the new constructs that are required for the employability framework to be validated. Moreover, neither constructs have been considered in previous existing employability models. This chapter further presents the summary of the results from the first and second round of the Delphi study and ascertains the impact of every factor’s influence (each question element) on graduate employability.
