ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an insight into the general overview of the study, which also includes the rationale and concept behind this research book. The chapter also sets the tone for understanding the need to unpack the employability concept in both the generic sense and the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) context. A conscious attempt was made to explain the relevance and timeliness of this book. Several employability studies carried out have focused on various fields such as management sciences, psychology, commerce, economics, and business studies, amongst others. However, there has been little mention of an employability skills model specifically for the built environment domain in the 4IR era. Therefore, this book addresses employability from the built environment perspective and only makes references to other disciplines during the generic literature review. This chapter further provides the significance of the book and subsequently provides a structure of the book.
