ABSTRACT

After reviewing the various employability models, frameworks, and their corresponding constructs, this chapter extensively addresses the gaps observed in a bid to satisfy the objectives and purpose of this book. The critical examination and justification of these gaps form the basis upon which the conceptual framework for this book was achieved. In ensuring the preparedness of built environment graduates for the future of the South African construction industry, these two gaps and dimensions need to be included in the proposed employability improvement framework. They are ‘university-industry collaboration outcomes’ and the need for graduates to possess ‘Industry 4.0 requirements’. These identified gaps are discussed in relation to their contribution to the improvement of graduate employability.
